About the Workshop:

Organised by DocSafe, AFID is hosting a roundtable dedicated to advancing safer practices within the documentary field. This conversation-based session aims to explore safety, ethics, and accountability across all stages of filmmaking—from research and development to production and exhibition.

What is the DocSafe Roundtable?

The roundtable is part of the wider #DocSafe initiative, a global, community-driven effort advocating for safer, more ethical practices in the documentary industry and beyond. It fosters critical reflection and action around a broad range of challenges, including harassment, abuse of power, ethical breaches, and curatorial blind spots. Rather than acting as a watchdog, DocSafe provides a space for dialogue, self-assessment, and collective learning.

At AFID, this roundtable will bring together filmmakers, producers, curators, and institutional representatives to share practices, identify needs, and propose actionable steps—particularly within the Arab world and the Global South. Your insights will directly contribute to the broader #DocSafe ecosystem, helping shape tools and frameworks rooted in our regional contexts.

Who should apply?

This roundtable is open to documentary professionals of all levels who are actively engaged in nonfiction storytelling and committed to building a safer, more ethical film culture.
