Banel and Adama are fiercely in love. Longing for a home of their own, they decide to live apart from their families. But when Adama informs the village council that he will not accept his blood duty as future chief, the whole community is disrupted. The rain that is supposed to come does not come. The star-crossed lovers learn that where they live, there is no room for passions, let alone for chaos.
French-Senegalese Ramata-Toulaye Sy was born and raised in the Paris region. She joined La Fémis in 2011 in the Screenwriting department, from which she graduated in 2015. Sy worked, among others, as a screenwriter on the film “Sibel” (2018) by Çagla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti as well as on “Our Lady of the Nile” (2019) by Atiq Rahimi. In 2020, Sy directed her first short film, “Astel”, which was selected in more than 80 festivals and pre-selected for the 2023 César Awards. “Banel & Adama” is her first feature film.

راماتا-تولاي سي مخرجة فرنسية - سنغالية، ولدت ونشأت في باريس. انضمت إلى مدرسة لا فيميس (La Fémis) عام ٢٠١١ بقسم كتابة السيناريو وتخرجت منه عام ٢٠١٥. عملت تولاي سي كـكاتبة سيناريو لفيلم " Sibel" عام ٢٠١٨ للمخرجتين شاغلا زنجيرجي وغيوم جيوفانيتي وكذلك لفيلم "سيدة النيل" عام ٢٠١٩ للمخرج عتيق رحيمي. في عام ٢٠٢٠، أخرجت تولاي سي فيلمها القصير الأول " Astel " الذي تم اختياره في أكثر من ٨٠ مهرجانًا وقُدم للترشيح لجوائز سيزار عام ٢٠٢٣. "بانيل وأدما" هو أول فيلم روائي طويل لها.
