First & Latest: Asghar Farhadi

Asghar Farhadi, the acclaimed international film director, will be our guest this year on Tuesday, July 9 at 8 PM. This section highlights seasoned filmmakers, showcasing the evolution of their cinematic language over the years. Farhadi will take us on a journey, sharing the experiences that shaped his visual and narrative style, leading up to his latest productions. The director will share lessons learned throughout his cinematic career, discussing the challenges he faced that contributed to the maturity of his work as a director.

In the introduction to his book “Seven Screenplays”, Farhadi wrote: “I reviewed all my screenplays, searching for one common thread amongst them all, and found that the biggest commonality is the “question”. I started by asking questions, then my questions grew bigger and heavier over time, and their facets multiplied (…). Our world needs those who ask questions more than those who volunteer to give answers; it needs those who place a question mark before anything, no matter how definitive it appears.”

أصغر فرهادي، المخرج العالمي المخضرم، سيكون ضيفنا هذا العام في هذا القسم غير التنافسي يوم الثلاثاء 9 تموز 2024 الساعة الثامنة مساءً. يسلط هذا القسم الضوء على صانعي الأفلام المحنكين، مستعرضاً تطور لغتهم السينمائية على مر السنين. سيأخذنا فرهادي في رحلة تبدأ بأول أفلامه، مما يتيح لنا فرصة الاطلاع على التجارب التي شكلت وعيه المرئي والقصصي، وصولاً إلى أحدث إنتاجاته. يشارك المخرج   فلسفته وخبراته والدروس التي اكتسبها خلال مسيرته السينمائية، ويستعرض التحديات التي واجهها وساهمت في نضوج أعماله كمخرج.

في مقدمة كتابه “سبع سيناريوهات” كتب فرهادي: “راجعتُ كل السيناريوهات التي كتبتها، بحثت عن شيء واحد مشترك بينها جميعا، ووجدت أن لا مشترك أكبر من “السؤال”، كانت بدايتي بطرح الأسئلة، ثم أصبحت أسئلتي أكبر وأثقل مع مرور الزمن، وتعددت أوجهها (…).  إنّ عالمنا بحاجة إلى من يطرح الأسئلة أكثر من حاجته إلى من يتطوّع بالإجابة، إنّه بحاجة إلى من يضع علامة الاستفهام أمام أيّ شيء مهما بدا قاطعًا.”
