Synopsis

During Sudan's 2018 popular revolution, six women were thrown into prison, stripped of their freedom, but not their spirit. Their journey transforms fear into resistance, and courage into a quiet, burning fight for justice. Bougainvillea is the story of the unbreakable spirit of women who refuse to be silenced.

Director’s biography

Yasir Faiz is a Sudanese filmmaker who grew up in Iraq before returning to Sudan, where he worked as a journalist for a decade. He later transitioned into filmmaking, earning recognition as second unit director on The Dog's Shitter and co-writer of the award-winning Journey to Kenya. His work received honors including the Black Elephant Award and a Special Jury Award at the Sudan Independent Film Festival. Also a cultural manager, Yasir has led programs in Sudan, Egypt, and Ukraine, and participated in international initiatives like Tandem. "Bougainvillea" marks his directorial debut, produced by In Deep Visions Productions.
