Synopsis

Colm unexpectedly ends his lifelong friendship with Pádraic, leaving him desperate to understand why. Their escalating conflict spirals into acts of desperation and violence, impacting everyone around them. Set on a small, isolated Irish island during the 1920s Irish Civil War, The Banshees of Inisherin blends dark humor with heartrending drama, capturing the raw emotions and fragile tensions that surface when lifelong ties suddenly fracture.

Director’s biography

Martin McDonagh, an acclaimed Irish-British playwright and filmmaker, is celebrated for his dark comedies and sharp storytelling. Born in London in 1970, McDonagh initially gained fame for his plays before transitioning to filmmaking. His debut feature, In Bruges (2008), was widely praised and earned an Academy Award nomination. Known for blending humor with profound social commentary, McDonagh has received numerous awards, including an Oscar for his short film Six Shooter (2004). His works, including Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017), highlight his talent for crafting compelling narratives that resonate deeply with audiences.
